Here are a few pics from the Wainui decent with Brendon, Willz, Sam, Roil and myself back in early spring. May have been in September, it was a wee while ago. This is probably the best kayaking I have done in NZ , an amazing day boating

Tauranga Taupo Huck Fest!!!

Well well well this would have to be one of the better kayaking updates I have put on my blog. Nearly 2 weeks ago now we were lucky enough to be the first kayaker to decent the Tauranga Taupo waterfall. The rain had been falling all week and the levels were looking good. Pete Sean and a German dude Timo and myself rallied Taupo way on Friday. We spent the night camping at the walk-in track, so we were ready for an early start. Brendon and Sophie meet us that morning and we got our hike on. Not the easiest hike in I have done, we ended up hiking for about an hour and a half to get to the stout. Well I think I will let the pics do the talking. I would also like to say a big thanks to Brendon Bailey for finding this beast of a waterfall and inviting us 2 paddled it with him shot B.

Sean, Pete, Timo and me scouting the sickest drop ever, we were all fired up and keen to huck our meat.(pic sophie)

Me dropping off the beast.I just decided to tuck as soon as I dropped off it as I thought it would reconnect me about half way down, I was right and it sure did do that.It set me up with the perfect angle to pug this beast .There was like no impact at the bottom, super soft that was sick. We think the stout is around 60 to 70ft high. I was a bit scared to look down as I dropped off - this aint a small drop!!(pic by Brendon)

(pic by Brendon)
Celebrating at the bottom, I was so so stoked on it, and happy with my line. My paddle split in half, but the blades didn't break. Unfortunately I ended up losing half of the paddled which sucked, but all good still - so stoked on it. Also a thanks to Sophie for walking in with us and running safety and recording the moment.Chur PEACE

This would have to be the scarest thing I have paddle before, I was shit scared!!! , but decided to sack up and give her. You go so fast down the slides its super rowdy but heaps of fun. Pic by bradley Lauder shot bro

The middle big slide , you pick up a bit of speed on this one

Money Drop (Rock Creek) Birthday Day boating

Well it is my bday today so I was super keen to run something. We spent most of the day scouting and looking for big waterfalls - lots that werent runable due to low water. Finally we found a good one that was good to go,(Money Drop). Bradley and I geared up and made our way to the stout. I would have to say I was a bit nervous, this is the one that Todd Wells broke his back on 5 weeks ago, but hey we didnt come here to be pussys. Thanks to Sam for all the pics. His eye is still a bit sore, but he will hopefully boating 2moro

I decided to firer it up first, I had a pretty sweet line landed a little bit flat, but was sweet.I snapped my paddle and cracked my seat in half, but was all good. I was still super stoked on it!!!!

Bradley tucked up, he had a sick line and pluged the drop super nice.

Well what a sick bday super stoked on it!!!!!

US mission starts well

Well we all made it here sweet and sound. We arived in San Fran and spent 2 days hanging out..We also got a sweet van that kicks ass. After 2days in San Fran we all headed to Mt Hood, to get our huck on. Its a super sweet place here, everyone is is super chilled. We then meet up with Ian Garcia and Tyler Bradt and decided to start our kayaking off with a bang. We headed to Metlako Falls to go big, this would probably be the best days kayaking in my life SO SICK. Here are a few pics of the stouts, enjoy

Me on punch bowl this drop is about 600meters above MetlakoFalls, a sweet little drop to warm up on

Me on the big Melako Fall, I was super stoked to have a sweet line, u definitely take a good hit at the bottom of this one.

Bradley and I had some sweet lines, but Sam was a bit unlucky, we think he punched himself in the head on impact and his eye is a bit swollen. He had a killer head ache for a few hours but we feel he will be sweet to keep his huck on. Ian had a pretty sweet line but his deck popped and he took a swim, all good happy days. This was so so sick, a mean way to start our mission off. Stay updated for new posts, PEACE. Also thanks to Ian for his words of wisdom at the top of the stout. We were all shitting ourselves.

Tree Trunk Gorge

Me on the big 1 (Photo -Tim Pickering)

Yesterday, Willz, Tim Pickering, Martic a slalom dude and I decided to head down to Tree Trunk Gorge for a little bit of a huck fest. We rocked up there and the flow was nice and it was all good to go. Tim and Willz decided they would fire it up first and both portaged the shitty entrance rapid which isn't nice at all. Tim dropped in first off the big 1, he had a sick line over the waterfall and Willz had a sweet line too. After the first drop, there is a super clean 20-footer, both the boys aired a big boof of it and stomped it. They were both super stoked on how the run went. I was now up next and super keen to run the drops, Martic wasn't keen to run the Gorge so Willz decided he would run it again with me , so I wouldn't be alone in there (good dude!). We both portaged the entrance rapid. I decided that I was going to drop in first. I was a little nervous. I gave Tim the hand signal and then made my way to the lip. It felt like I was in the right place and on line I then hit the connector with a bit of an angle and bounced off it and landed in the pool up side down, rolled up straight away and all was good. I was still super stoked on it. Willz was up next, he styled the falls again. We both had sweet lines of the last drop - such an amazing boof! We were all stoked on how the run went, a mint days boating. Thanks to Tim and Martic for the sweet photos, shot boys!

Aratiatia Rapids 30th Jan 2010

Me styling the weir

Aratiatia Rapids

On Saturday, 30th January, Sam Sutton, Willz, Max and I decided to head to Aratiatia Rapids to catch the 10 am flow down. We arrived there with a little bit of time to spare Willz decided that he would run safety at the weir with Matt Burton as they had both ran the rapids at the start of the week. Max, Sam and I put in and waited for the water to rise to full flow. Sam as usual dropped in first at around 10 past, I was up next I got the hand signal, all good to go I was a bit nervous but as soon as I dropped in the nerves went away. The entrance rapid went well I ran it on the hard left, I had sweet lines. I managed to line the weir up okay I stalled out a bit but it was sweet, I was stoked. Sam had a little play session in the weir and managed to paddle out. Max was up last it looked like he had a sweet line off the weir but it looped him back into the guts and he ended up swimming, he took a bit of a beating but managed to grab the rope that Matt threw him it was super scary watching him getting smashed. Max's kayak went down stream so he couldn't carry on. The Middle drop was up next Sam and I had sweet lines, plugged it hard and came out sweet.I was super stoked to get down the rapids and style them. A sick days kayaking. Thanks Matt and Willz for running safety for us, shot boys!

Here are a few pics from the run

Maxi before a NDE Near Death Experience
Sam before a little freestyle session in the weir NO BIG DEAL!
